Innovative Research Takes Center Stage at Seed Congress of the Americas

The Innovation Floor at the Seed Congress of the Americas, held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2024, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, showcased cutting-edge research in the seed sector. Teams from universities, national institutes, and companies presented their innovations through posters displayed throughout the Congress. The event culminated in an awards ceremony on Day Two of the congress, where judges Juan Erdmann (ASA), Fabiana Malacarne (ASA), and Daniel Bayce (INASE Uruguay) recognized the top three posters.

Cristian Vissani, Marcos Murgio, and María Belen Conde from INTA were awarded first place for their project on Genetic Yield Gain Based on the National Evaluation Network of Soybean Cultivars (RECSO) 1994-2020.

Second place went to Vanessa Sosa and Fernando Rincón of INASE Uruguay for their work on Molecular Markers for Seed Legality in Uruguay.

Third place was awarded to Magdalena Lopez Olaciregui, Cecilia Roca, M. Cometti, and M. Fedorova from Corteva for their research on Genome Editing: Considerations of the Full Genetic Potential for Forward-Looking Regulation.

The Innovation Floor at the Seed Congress of the Americas underscored the crucial role of research and development in driving the seed sector forward. These innovative projects not only showcase the scientific advancements being made but also highlight the importance of continued investment in cutting-edge technologies to meet the evolving challenges of the global industry as it embraces new tools like molecular markers and genome editing.
