Former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati likely to raise $100M for new AI startup

Mira Murati, the former CTO of OpenAI, departed from the ChatGPT developer last month. Now, Reuters reports that she is raising VC funding for her new AI startup. While she left OpenAI, Murai left a post on X that she was stepping away but did not reveal her plans. 

It is reported that the startup will develop AI products using proprietary models. However, it is unclear if Murati will take on the role of CEO. While discussions haven’t been finalised, the startup could raise over $100 million, for Murati’s reputation is known. 

Goldman Sachs to Tesla: Murati’s experience 

In 2011, Mira Murati started her career as an intern at Goldman Sachs, learning the intricacies of fintech. Then, she ventured into the aerospace industry, working at Zodiac Aerospace until 2013. However, her career took a growth trajectory at Tesla, where she spent three years. This is where she gained expertise on early releases of Autopilot and the development of robots powered by AI technology. Later, Murati joined Leap Motion, renowned for its gesture-based technology. 

In 2018, she joined OpenAI, which marked a significant milestone in her career. As CTO since 2022, Murati was involved in OpenAI’s research, product development, and safety teams. 

Murati was among several OpenAI executives to leave the company recently. Barret Zoph, a researcher also left the company alongside Murati in September.

Mira Murati’s achievements in AI inspire women and highlight the importance of diversity in tech. Her journey shows how creating opportunities for women fosters innovation.
