Elon Musk’s rival NEURA Robotics grabs €120M to advance cognitive and humanoid robotics vision

David Reger, founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics

Metzingen-based NEURA Robotics, a pioneer in cognitive robotics and Germany’s only humanoid robotics company, has secured €120M in Series B funding. Lingotto Investment Management led the round, which included participation from BlueCrest Capital Management, Volvo Cars Tech Fund, InterAlpen Partners, Vsquared Ventures, HV Capital, Delta Electronics, C4 Ventures, L-Bank, founder David Reger, and others.

The funding will advance the company’s cognitive and humanoid robotics technology through R&D, launch new category-leading global products based on its existing platform, and expand its Neuraverse ecosystem.

How NEURA Robotics transform industries with cognitive humanoid robots

Founded in 2019 by David Reger, NEURA Robotics enhances collaborative robots (cobots) with cognitive abilities. Reger envisioned creating robots that could see, hear, and feel, enabling them to work seamlessly with humans in existing environments.

NEURA Robotics is at the forefront of addressing critical challenges in the robotics industry. With a focus on labour shortages, safety and collaboration, flexibility, and ease of use, the company’s robots are filling crucial gaps by performing tasks that require human-like capabilities.

David Reger, founder and CEO of NEURA Robotics, said: “Cognitive robotics is expected to become bigger than the smartphone. I am proud that NEURA is the first to ship a commercially viable cognitive robot and remains Germany’s only humanoid robotics company.”

NEURA Robotics has shown remarkable growth over the past year, doubling its workforce to over 300 employees, achieving 10x revenue growth, and securing an order book valued at €1 billion.

Key innovation: advanced perception and AI

NEURA’s robots stand out with sophisticated perception capabilities, enabling them to see, hear, and feel their environment. This is achieved through integrated 3D vision systems for object recognition and environmental mapping, voice recognition and natural language processing for human interaction, and force-torque sensors in all axes for precise touch sensitivity.

The company integrates these sensors with advanced AI algorithms, allowing its robots to autonomously perceive and interact with their surroundings. This environmental awareness and cognitive ability surpass that of many traditional collaborative robots.

NEURA’s cognitive robots operate safely in human environments without complex safety systems. They use AI and advanced sensors to learn and adapt to new tasks or environments, making them versatile for manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and household applications.

The company’s key innovations include MAiRA — the world’s first market-ready cognitive cobot capable of perceiving its environment and humans — and 4NE-1, a humanoid robot designed to support people in various areas of life. Their Neuraverse platform enables partners and customers to develop robotic applications through a cloud-based system.

Humanoid robots are already among us

As humanoid robots become more intelligent, versatile, and cost-effective, they are poised to transform various industries and aspects of daily life. Nikhil Srinivasan, Managing Partner of Lingotto Horizon, states: “NEURA’s exceptional technological expertise and groundbreaking innovation are transforming industrial and consumer robotics. With phenomenal AI capabilities, an extraordinary growth trajectory, and a billion-dollar order book, NEURA is on track to potentially becoming a multi-billion-dollar company and one of the most prominent robotics companies in the world.”

The investment in NEURA Robotics reflects the growing global importance of cognitive and humanoid robotics. The market for humanoid robots is projected to reach $38 billion by 2035, as these technologies address labour shortages while improving efficiency across industries.
