Cibus Announces Leadership Transition and CEO Succession Plan

Cibus, Inc., an agricultural technology company focused on gene-edited plant traits, announced leadership changes as part of its succession planning.

A news released stated that the board of directors has accepted the resignation of CEO Rory Riggs . Peter Beetham, the company’s president and chief operating officer, will serve as interim CEO. Beetham, a Cibus co-founder alongside Riggs and Greg Gocal, will also continue as a director. Gocal remains chief scientific officer. Riggs will continue as chairman of the board.

The board initiated a search for the company’s next CEO and will evaluate internal and external candidates.

“On behalf of the Board, I recognize Rory’s contributions to Cibus over more than two decades,” said Mark Finn, lead independent director, in the release. “His work has helped advance Cibus’ technology in agricultural gene editing. The Board is confident that Peter Beetham, Greg Gocal, Carlo Broos and the leadership team will maintain focus on the company’s commercial priorities during this transition.”

Riggs stated, “I look forward to continuing my work on the Board and believe the company is positioned for a smooth transition. Cibus is evolving from an agricultural trait development company to a commercial trait provider. One of my objectives as CEO was to advance the RTDS® and Trait Machine processes. With that progress made, this is the right time to activate our succession plan. Peter Beetham, as a Cibus co-founder with expertise in agricultural gene editing, is well equipped to lead during this transition.”
