London-based Augmetec lands £2M to transform AI-powered corporate investigations

Augmetec

The legal tech industry is rapidly evolving with AI-driven solutions transforming compliance, risk management, and investigative workflows. As regulatory scrutiny increases, companies like Augmetec are leading the way by leveraging automation and AI to enhance the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of internal investigations.

£2M funding to accelerate growth

London-based legal tech startup Augmetec, which is transforming the future of internal and regulatory investigations, has raised over £2 million in seed funding. The round was led by Fuel Ventures, a UK-based early-stage venture capital firm, with participation from Swiss fund 14Peaks Capital and three influential angel investors. These include the Founding Partner of one of the world’s largest law firms, the family office of a $1bn+ legal tech organisation, and the Head of Fraud at Asia’s largest law firm.

This backing not only brings capital but also strategic expertise and industry connections, setting Augmetec up for expansion into new markets and further product development.

Addressing the growing complexity of investigations

The compliance and regulatory landscape has grown increasingly complex, with multinational corporations facing heightened scrutiny from global regulators. Laws such as the UK Bribery Act and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act have led to over $375 billion in penalties since the 2008 financial crisis, reflecting the increasing enforcement of ethical business practices.

Additionally, whistleblower protections and corporate transparency initiatives are driving a surge in internal investigations. Organisations are under pressure to respond quickly, accurately, and in compliance with regulations, but traditional investigation processes remain slow, inconsistent, and resource-intensive. Augmetec provides a modern, technology-driven solution to these challenges, helping companies save time, reduce costs, and maintain trust in their investigative processes.

How does it transform investigations

Founded in 2022 by Kritin Sundaram, a renowned investigator known for spearheading one of the largest fraud cases in modern history, the company is built on profound industry expertise. Augmetec’s team, which spans the UK, Germany, Portugal, and the US, offers over a century of combined experience in law, technology, and compliance, positioning it uniquely to address the inefficiencies that plague internal investigations.

At the heart of Augmetec’s innovation is LEIAA: Your Investigations Command Centre, an AI-powered SaaS platform designed to streamline investigative workflows. With an emphasis on automation and data-driven decision-making, LEIAA helps organisations reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance investigative precision.

LEIAA is a secure, AI-powered platform designed to be an end-to-end command centre for ethics and compliance investigations. It allows organisations to standardise investigative workflows and maintain consistency; streamline evidence management with integrations into enterprise platforms like Relativity, iManage, and NetDocuments; enhance security and auditability, backed by ISO 27001 and SOC II certifications; leverage AI-driven automation to process data efficiently and extract actionable insights; and reduce investigative costs and free up valuable resources.

By offering a single source of truth, LEIAA empowers multinational corporations, law firms, financial institutions, NGOs, and governments to conduct thorough and defensible investigations with greater speed and accuracy.

Expanding global reach and product innovation

With the fresh funding, Augmetec is set to scale its operations and enhance its product offerings. Key focus areas include:

  • Expanding its global client base, with a focus on major enterprises, legal firms, and financial institutions
  • Growing its team by hiring top talent in engineering, compliance, operations, and sales
  • Strengthening international partnerships to extend LEIAA’s reach into new markets
  • Investing in product development, introducing new features and AI-driven enhancements to improve investigative capabilities

As regulatory demands continue to increase worldwide, Augmetec is positioned to become a major player in the legal tech and compliance space. With deep industry expertise, AI-driven automation, and strategic investor backing, the company is set to redefine how organisations manage investigations, making them faster, more precise, and cost-effective.

Kritin Sundaram, co-founder and CEO at Augmetec, said: “Augmetec has been built on decades of experience in conducting hundreds of high-profile investigations into alleged improper conduct. Our fantastic team has deep industry expertise to create specific solutions to solve precise, real-world problems. This is the backbone of LEIAA’s offering, which has been directly experienced and loved by customers worldwide.”

Oliver Hammond, Partner at Fuel Ventures, said: “We’re so excited to be working with Augmetec. We’ve seen internal investigations within corporations increase significantly as regulation grows and levels of improper conduct increase. As such, corporations are being required to investigate thoroughly and fairly. Progress in AI and automation means we think the time is now to automate and maximise the efficiency to a significant degree in that process, allowing corporations to come to conclusions quicker and more accurately. We think Augmetec is going to revolutionise this industry.”

Emanuele Larocca, Principal at 14Peaks Capital, said: “LEIAA by Augmetec is uniquely positioned to truly automate regulatory investigation workflows. The team’s intimate understanding of investigative processes has been distilled into a fit-for-purpose software solution, leveraging a unified data architecture to consolidate siloed tasks into a cohesive, transparent, and secure platform. We are convinced that both enterprise and law firms worldwide will resonate with this proposition, finding in Augmetec the ideal partner to navigate to the ever-evolving global regulatory landscape.”
