NXP Semiconductors plans to acquire TTTech Auto to strengthen its leadership in automotive technology and create smarter, more connected software-defined vehicles (SDVs) by integrating TTTech Auto’s advanced safety and software systems with NXP’s CoreRide platform.

NXP Semiconductors has announced its plan to acquire TTTech Auto, a Vienna-based company specialising in advanced safety and software systems for cars. This $625M deal aims to strengthen NXP’s position as a leader in automotive technology, paving the way for smarter, more connected vehicles. The acquisition is also a significant step in advancing the rapidly evolving world of automotive and industrial technology.

Software-defined vehicles: Where cars merge with computers

Imagine owning a car that gets better over time, just like your smartphone when it updates with new features. These are software-defined vehicles (SDVs), and they’re transforming the way cars are designed and built. SDVs rely on a combination of hardware and software, allowing for advanced features, updates, and even enhanced safety systems. But this transformation comes with challenges, as automakers require robust tools and platforms to manage the complex systems involved.

The SDV market is growing quickly. By 2027, nearly half of all cars globally are expected to be SDVs, with the industry expanding by 48% each year. To help automakers meet this demand, NXP is teaming up with TTTech Auto to provide the expertise and technology needed to succeed in this new era of automotive innovation.

Bringing NXP CoreRide and TTTech MotionWise to Software-defined vehicles

In 2024, NXP launched the CoreRide platform to simplify the process of building SDVs. CoreRide manages critical functions like computing power, networking, and energy efficiency in vehicles. Now, with the addition of TTTech Auto’s MotionWise software, CoreRide will become even more powerful, offering automakers a comprehensive solution to save time, boost safety, and accelerate the release of new vehicle models.

“This acquisition combines NXP’s automotive portfolio with a leading global player in safety software solutions,” said Jens Hinrichsen, executive vice president at NXP. “The inclusion of TTTech Auto’s software into the NXP CoreRide solution further strengthens NXP’s automotive value proposition and accelerates the automotive industry’s transformation to software-defined vehicles. NXP CoreRide enables automakers to deploy their best-in-class, differentiated vehicle platforms more efficiently, faster, and safely. Our acquisition of TTTech Auto is the next big step in NXP’s journey to become the leading provider of intelligent edge systems in automotive and Industrial IoT.”

TTTech Auto’s MotionWise software is a trusted name in the industry. It manages safety-critical functions in SDVs while ensuring that all systems work together seamlessly. This middleware also allows automakers to update or add features easily, scaling software across different car models. Stefan Poledna, co-founder of TTTech Auto, shared his enthusiasm: “I could not be more excited for our team to join NXP. Together, we are perfectly situated to engage with OEM and Tier one players throughout their system design process.”

Helping carmakers build the future

Dirk Linzmeier, CEO of TTTech Auto, also commented on the partnership: “NXP and TTTech Auto both clearly recognise this need and share the same vision for SDV transformation. Together, MotionWise and NXP CoreRide empower automakers with a robust SDV foundation, ensuring seamless coordination of diverse systems that help automakers deliver innovative features while maintaining reliability and safety at scale.”

This collaboration aims to address challenges like developing advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and managing high-performance computing in modern vehicles. By integrating NXP’s hardware with TTTech Auto’s software, the CoreRide platform becomes an all-in-one solution for creating next-generation cars.

Once the acquisition receives regulatory approval, TTTech Auto’s team of 1,100 engineers and its technology will officially join NXP. This will expand NXP’s capacity to support existing customers and tackle ambitious global projects, solidifying its leadership in automotive and industrial technology.

Paving the way for smarter, safer cars

NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) is a trusted partner for innovative solutions across the automotive, industrial & IoT, mobile, and communications infrastructure markets. Through their recent acquisition, NXP is boldly advancing to aid automakers in creating smarter, safer, and more connected vehicles. By integrating the strengths of CoreRide and MotionWise, NXP aims to simplify the complex process of developing SDVs, enabling automakers to concentrate on innovation and delivering exceptional vehicles.

As the automotive industry transitions to SDVs, NXP is setting new standards in technology and safety. This acquisition underscores NXP’s dedication to innovation and its pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation technology.
