Rob Reilly’s journey to founding Mixed Handed Branding in 2019 was fueled by years in advertising sales, media advising at the University of Hawaii and the University of Oregon, and experience in private branding consulting. Rob’s passion for building organizations and helping teams reach a common goal led him to start his own branding and marketing firm based in Eugene, Oregon.
“I’ve always loved seeing how teams can develop into successful organizational units. Watching a business grow and knowing that our team’s efforts contribute to that success is incredibly fulfilling,” Rob says.
Overcoming the Challenges of Delegation and Doubt
As with any entrepreneurial journey, Rob’s path wasn’t without its challenges. “The biggest challenge was learning to delegate and trusting my team to get the work done,” he admits. Building trust within a team requires time and letting go of some control—a tough shift for any business owner but essential to sustainable growth.
Rob also faced challenges in expanding the business, which included the strategic decision to acquire another company. “It was risky, especially bringing on new team members and clients from outside our original organization. We had to take on new payroll, and there was always the worry that clients might leave after the acquisition. But we knew this move could expand our services and offerings,” he explains. Pushing through doubts and constantly adjusting strategies has been essential in establishing Mixed Handed Branding’s reputation and client base.
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
For those considering entrepreneurship, Rob offers straightforward advice: “Don’t go into business thinking you’re going to work less—at least not at first.” He emphasizes that the most successful business owners are those who have a genuine passion for what they do and the dedication to put in the time. “It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and time to build a successful business,” Rob says, drawing on years of experience working with other business owners and leaders.
A Proud Moment: Recognition in Design
One of Rob’s proudest moments with Mixed Handed Branding came when the company started winning awards for its designs. “It was a huge confidence boost to see our work recognized. It helped confirm that what we do is every bit as good, if not better, than our competition,” he says. This recognition reassured him that Mixed Handed Branding was on the right path, delivering quality work that made an impact.
Vision for Growth and Future Plans
Looking ahead, Rob envisions significant growth for Mixed Handed Branding. Currently a team of 10, he plans to expand to a team of 50 within the next five years. “Our growth strategy includes setting up satellite offices in cities like Honolulu, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle. Each office will be managed locally, with the Eugene headquarters providing oversight and support,” Rob shares.
The firm’s long-term vision isn’t just about numbers; it’s about building partnerships that foster lasting success. “We want to create cool things and form partnerships that provide employment, financial security, and the ability for both our team and our clients to reach their personal goals and aspirations.”
From its roots in Eugene to future expansions on the West Coast, Mixed Handed Branding is committed to delivering exceptional branding solutions while building a team and client partnerships that thrive. Rob Reilly’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and the drive to build something meaningful.
